About me

Hi there,

My name is Izzy and I recently graduated with a first class honours in Biomedical Sciences at Durham University, and have since began a MSc in the Immunology of Infectious Disease at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. I've studied a diverse range of subjects throughout my A Levels and continue to maintain an interest in various academic areas. I feel that I can give a broader range of teaching styles, and advice to fit students who learn in all different ways, and struggle in a range of areas.

I have a humanities background, having studied English Literature (A-Level) and History (AS), but have since pursued qualifications in Biomedical sciences, after completing Biology and Psychology A-Levels. I achieved highly, graduating with AAA*A. I also achieved an A* in my Extended Project Qualification Dissertation which means I am well practiced in exam style, research and referencing.

I can focus broadly on the subject area you are struggling with, or assist with any specific points you feel you are most concerned about. It's entirely up to you! If you're interested in getting some help in your subjects, message or book a brief meet the tutor session where we can discuss what you personally would like to gain from tutoring, and see whether it's right for you.

I hope to meet you soon!

About my sessions

Having recently left compulsory schooling I can empathise with the stress exams and coursework give you, and even with the most capable students just a bit of extra help and consolidation with certain subjects can give anyone that extra bit of confidence which will allow them to achieve. My tutoring style is flexible; I can provide whatever type of learning style you need. I believe in tailoring the tutor style to whatever your learning style, as a student, is, be it through auditory, visual or hands on lessons.

I tend to stick with some key teaching methods which are useful across all subjects for preparing my students to complete assignments, memorise content and sit exams. I will break up the content they need into manageable chunks, organise my lessons based around key principles, introduce them broadly, expand with details required by the curriculum and then consolidate by asking questions, often based on exam questions that may come up. I can set homework or external reading, to make sure the student stays engaged and rehearses the information we cover, however this is non-compulsory.

We will set targets together at the beginning of our sessions, and monitor how these are being met as weeks pass. The main thing for me is to see that my students feel more confident with the content and exam format, and experience minimal stress throughout the learning process to build their confidence and interest in the subject.

A big thank you to Izzy who worked with my daughter at short-notice and has very quickly restored the confidence that had faded. She is beginning to understand how to structure her essays to best effect. Your teaching style is very clear and approachable. the lessons are enjoyable and pass very quickly. You cover a lot of content. Wish I'd found you much sooner!!
