About me

I'm a violinist, pianist, singer and conductor in my second year of a music degree at Queens' College, Cambridge. Along with my wide experience as a performer, having performed in venues all over Europe as part of various ensembles and as a soloist, I have lots of experience as a communicator and educator. Through conducting choirs and orchestras, and tutoring music privately for a couple of years, I've learned that the role of the tutor is to enthuse and to inspire, adapting them...

Along with my wide experience as a performer, having performed in venues all over Europe as part of various ensembles and as a soloist, I have lots of experience as a communicator and educator. Through conducting choirs and orchestras, and tutoring music privately for a couple of years, I've learned that the role of the tutor is to enthuse and to inspire, adapting themselves to the unique individuality of every student.

My main areas of academic interest are music theory, harmony, history and analysis. I love how music has acted (and continues to do so) as a medium for transmitting ideas throughout history - from the medieval world perspective to the modernist upheavals of the twentieth century. Studying music is one of the best ways to learn about human expression, and it's wonderful to do so while making and listening to beautiful sounds at the same time!

About my sessions

In my experience, the best (and most interesting) way of learning about music is to lift it off the page, situating it in a historical, aesthetic context and by listening to it. Through this rounded approach, one can better understand the many concepts underlying our study of music, whether they be theoretical, historical or analytical.

In my experience, the best (and most interesting) way of learning about music is to lift it off the page, situating it in a historical, aesthetic context and by listening to it. Through this rounded approach, one can better understand the many concepts underlying our study of music, whether they be theoretical, historical or analytical.

It is in this way that I want to help students achieve their best in their studies. My first priority is to address areas of interest to the student. I'm keen to know what students would like help in, and I prepare my sessions based on this, using a variety of multimedia resources to encourage and engage students. The wonderful thing about tutoring is that the student can explore and unpack their subject in a way that is completely personal to them, establishing a friendly connection with their tutor. No question is too simple or too difficult!

Students of mine can expect to have their knowledge and interest for the subject furthered through practice questions and exercises, which I will go over and discuss during the sessions. I also encourage students to think widely about the subject while studying their curriculum, which is a positive quality that university interviewers look out for.
