About my sessions

In general I try to:

(1) Get a sense of their ability and enthusiasm for the subject.

If they are struggling and do not particularly like the subject - thats fine! I will tailor our sessions accordingly, ensuring that the student knows the best way to get the highest mark possible during the exam. I will focus more on exam technique and encourage them to be strategic with there learning.

If they love the subject, then great! But they still need help channelling that enthusiasm into writing exam answers.

(2) Two dimensions of learning.

A student needs 2 things: Knowledge and Technique.

By KNOWLEDGE, I just mean they have to know their stuff (dates, names, events). This is the part that can be boring if done badly. But it should be a joy! I will tailor each lesson to ensure that the student comes away WANTING to know more. This might be through conventional methods (telling them about an interesting fact or character from history) or unconventional (encouraging them to watch a historical drama, film, or documentary).

By TECHNIQUE, I mean they must be able to translate that knowledge into effective essays and exam questions. This is the part where I can really help. I have over six years experience of writing essays under exam conditions, and my marks over the years have shown that I am good at it. I will be able to increase the marks of my pupils by giving them a series of pointers on how best to structure essays.

Sam tutors me for A-Level Government and Politics, so far he's been great tutor. He's friendly and relaxed, which is great for those who are slightly nervous with new people! Moreover the feedback I received from Sam on a essay I sent him was incredibly informative and crystal clear! He's remarkably knowledgable, and profoundly passionate! I have only been working with Sam for 2 lessons now, but I can already see an improvement in my work! He's been flexible and ensured that the lessons met my academic needs perfectly. I think that with time and continued tutoring from Sam, I will make further progress and get the grades that I need when applying for university! I would undoubtedly recommend to someone that is looking for tutor that is friendly, provides excellent value for money, is incredibly passionate and knowledgeable and additionally is quick outside of lessons when you have queries or questions!
