About me

My name is Jenny and I'm an English literature graduate from Durham University. I've spent a lot of time in teaching jobs, and outside of my studies I love drama, music and dance - which ties in well with English! I'm about to begin studying for a Masters degree.

I specialise in Shakespeare but have studied all kinds of literature, including Victorian, Renaissance, Harry Potter, post-war, and Biblical and classical Greek/Roman texts.

I'm not a school teacher, so what we cover will be entirely down to you! During these sessions we'll be able to work together to understand whatever you're working on. I can also help you with any exam technique worries you might have. I hope that these sessions will be a fun way for us to work together on what I think (and I hope you'll agree) are really interesting subjects!

I specialise in Cambridge iGCSE, AQA, Edexcel and OCR but have also taught several other exam boards.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or book a session - remember to let me know exactly what you are struggling with so that I can help you!

About my sessions

Teaching can be goal focused or more generic - if you want to work for a particular exam then we will work according to the syllabus and look at your set texts in details as well as working on exam technique.

In looking at particular texts we will work in a mutual, discussion-based way to make sure that the student has a deep understanding of the text as well as comprehensive revision notes which we will make together. I won't just talk at you for an hour! It's also...

In looking at particular texts we will work in a mutual, discussion-based way to make sure that the student has a deep understanding of the text as well as comprehensive revision notes which we will make together. I won't just talk at you for an hour! It's also helpful to examine the wider context of a piece of literature in order to understand it better.

Every so often we will look at new, unseen texts in order to practice the application of the skills needed in studying English.

I find that writing mock essay plans is a very helpful way of consolidating knowledge and practising exam skills, as well as measuring progress. It lends itself to discussing the topic afterwards and working out together how we can improve and how we could translate it into an essay.

Most importantly, the lessons will be engaging and interesting!
