About me

About Me

Hi, my name is Jess.

I am currently doing a Masters at Nottingham University in Viking and Anglo Saxon studies. This sounds like it would be a history course, but it’s actually with the English department as it is very language based.

For my bachelors degree I studied Ancient History, this has provided me with a working knowledge of Latin, and has helped me to cultivate the essential analytical skills required for the study of humanities subjects. Essay writing can seem like a terrifying thing, but when you understand the conventions and how to approach a question, it becomes a lot less intimidating.

I also love to be creative, and I hope I can help you develop your own individuality when it comes to your thoughts and ideas, which will allow your work to stand out from the crowd.

My Experience

I have spent three years as an English foreign language teacher, in the UK and abroad, and this has provided me with plenty of experience teaching students between the ages of 4 and 21.

This wide range of ages has allowed me develop the skills necessary to teach students of all abilities, whether they have no understanding of a topic, or whether they just want some guidance in structuring their ideas.

I'm Here to Help

Please let me know everything you would like help with, and I will do my very best to ensure that our lessons are informative and enjoyable.

I am also here to help those who wish to apply for University. I’ve applied and been accepted to three university so far, and I’d love to make the process smoother and less intimidating for potential fellow students.

You want your personal statement to grab the attention of the person reading it.

It needs to be concise, but also informative, and most importantly it needs to demonstrate your unique qualities.

It is important to be honest about your abilities and experience, but at the same time, the way in which you present them is essential. If, for example you have a part time job, or have received an academic reward from your school, you must explain the value of these achievements, and their relevance to your application.

The way in which you structure your personal statement is also key. There should be a topic division between each paragraph. You could, for example, divide your work by your aspirations, academic achievements, extracurricular achievements, and what you feel you can bring to the course you are applying for. It's always good to remind the university why you would benefit them by being a student there.

It might seem like a daunting task at the outset, but writing a personal statement is a means for you to express yourself. To look back on your life so far and all you have achieved. It's not as scary as you first think. In fact, it can be an empowering experience.
