I enrolled in Critical Practice classes which taught me advanced theories and terminology to use in criticism of prose, poetry and performance texts (plays) I have had a passion for reading since I was a young girl which turned into a flare for creative writing and I have won several national writing competitions The beauty of literature is that it offers a creative window through which one can view history and the world. Unlike most people, I have always looked forward to sitting English exams and there's nothing I love more than a close reading of a piece of poetry or of a passage of prose. I really hope that my students will be able to tackle unseen poetry with excitement and anticipation, rather than apprehension. At high school I achieved 100% in my A Level English Literature and my coursework was used as an example by AQA for those striving for A*. During my time at university I edited the Edinburgh edition of the UK's largest student-led newspaper 'The Tab Edinburgh' (for two years) and have published over eighty unique articles (amassing 1/2 a million views ) to a professional standard. I have also spent three summers on the Camp America programme through which I was employed as a lifeguard and swimming instructor therefore I’m DBS certified.

About my sessions

For poetry, prose and plays: I believe that it is important not to overload a student's brain with a gazillion quotes during the revision process. For poetry, prose and plays: I believe that it is important not to overload a student's brain with a gazillion quotes during the revision process. Choosing 7-12 essential quotes that can be applied in a multitude of contexts within a question (i.e. those which can be used when referring to any question whether it be on class, gender or religion etc). I will explain how language and narrative devices employed within these quotes evoke particular interpretations. Close reading of quotes ensures that an understanding can be triggered by specific words. I fully believe in this method as it is one I have used in every English exam I have taken and a method which I have taught to my peers in order to aid them.

I also plan on conducting critical practice lessons for my A-Level students which will provide them with advanced terminology and an introductory understanding of theories such as modernism and structuralism in order to demonstrate their wider understanding of literature.
