Hi! Thanks for clicking on my profile.

I'm Colm and I've recently finished a Masters in Philosophy, having completed a Bachelors in English Literature and Philosophy before. My areas of interest in Literature and Philosophy are largely French leaning (Rabelais, Barbusse, Houellebecq, Weil), but I am well read so I should be able to help you out with quite a lot.

I loved English Literature at high school and college (as well as University!), so I would be more than happy to help you with this subject. Whether it is going through grammar and punctuation or Existential themes in Hamlet, I am here to help you get the grade you want.

With Philosophy, I appreciate any opportunity I get to read Philosophy. Please approach me if you're having trouble with a philosophical topic and I will see what I can do. I am happy to tutor any and every element of A Level philosophy, but when it comes to University, It's worth knowing that my philosophical interests are as follows (but not exhausted by): Metaphysics, Ethics, Theology, German Idealism, Feminism, Political Philosophy, Phenomenology, as well as specific thinkers such as Schopenhauer, Edith Stein, Plato and Iris Murdoch. These are broad, but if you wish to be tutored in one of these areas, please let me know.

Thanks for reading and have a nice day :)

About my sessions

For English Literature, I will reread your texts you are studying during the term and go through them with you as you'd like. We will cover your homework and sometimes I will set small tasks for you. This is so I can gage where you are at and where you need to improve. However, I am flexible - in the free video meeting we can establish how you like to learn and I can keep this in mind when planning our lessons. As our sessions continue, we will begin looking through past papers and I will...

As our sessions continue, we will begin looking through past papers and I will ask you to plan answers to questions. Past papers are an invaluable resource, but they are more useful to go through with a tutor who can give you immediate advice. A rough lesson will include going through homework, covering an area of difficulty for you, tasks and quizzes relating to this, and an overview.

When it comes to Philosophy, we will run through a powerpoint on a specific topic, or a specific section of a book, dependent on your course. We will dedicate the first section of the lesson to introducing the problem. This will include some context, such as the school of thought the topic belongs to. Following this, I will ask you to summarise the topic for me, and then to answer a few quick questions about said topic. After, we will consider objections to the topic and I will ask whether you agree with it or not and why. To close the session, we will focus on setting a micro essay (200 words) for you to write for our next lesson.
