About me

A 3rd year medical student at the University of Manchester - I chose medicine as there is no other course I can imagine myself doing! I love how it integrates my favourite topics of the sciences into real life and the fact that it gives me the privilege to help vulnerable people day in and out.

I'm not your average student - for most of secondary school I was in bottom sets, but I worked my way up with a lot of hard work, determination and passion. I also had amazing teachers who shared their passion with me and inspired me to challenge myself, encouraging me to work my true potential. I soon learnt that there is no such thing as being 'smart' - it's the hard work which will always pay off. Achieving 7A* and 3As in my GCSEs, I was motivated to do even better at Sixth Form. By the end of year 13, I achieved A*A*A (Biology, Chemistry, Maths) and an A* in my EPQ.

I have been through the Medicine UCAS applications twice - so I know the selection process inside out and what medical schools are looking for. I was in the top 10% with my UKCAT result in 2016, got all four interviews during my second application and consequently 3 offers!

I have great communication skills and plan to to make learning as fun as possible. I want my students to approach revision with excitement, rather than as something to tick off their to-do list. I also hope to give them a thorough understanding of their subjects, rather than rote-learning and memorisation.

About my sessions

I hope to make an organised revision plan using the syllabus personalised to YOU and one that we can realistically follow. It's important to start on weaker topics first, as there is little point in wasting valuable time on confident topics. Once you have the hang of the basics we can work on harder topics. I will come prepared with a variety of resources, and especially those that are suited to your learning style (visual, auditory etc.)

I believe a key quality in any tutor is to be approachable - to emphasise that no question is a dumb question! (genuinely)

In science, it can be frustrating to lose marks because of a word/phrase that you didn't mention in your answer - and this is why we should structure a lot of revision around past papers. You will realise that a lot of questions are repeated and that you can gain a lot of easy marks if you know the mark scheme well enough. This was one of my main revision strategies and I will help to perfect your exam technique.

With maths, I hope to use a step by step method and explain how to approach questions. Practice makes perfect and I will encourage you as much as I can. It's better to make mistakes now rather than on exam day.

I will be asking for regular feedback from students and what worked best for them - with your suggestions I hope to improve my lessons further :)
