Hi there, I'm a medical student at Bristol University! I am very passionate about my chosen field of study; working in a hospital alongside other health professionals is not only fascinating but incredibly rewarding.

I tutor Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry at GCSE and A level, as well as providing UCAS and medical admission support. I was an A* student in all my subjects and I hope to share my experience, knowledge and enthusiasm during my lessons. 'Patient', 'motivated' and 'hardworking' are words that my past pupils have used to describe me when I tutored during my time as a sixth former at Wirral Grammar School. I hope to spark curiosity and determination in students, in order to inspire them to want to learn, rather than viewing it as a chore. It’s amazing to see pupils’ confidence in themselves grow so they know they can achieve the grades they need, and hopefully even go over and above the grade an impersonal computer algorithm has predicted for them.

As for UCAS/ medical admission support, I understand how stressful this time can be. I’ll be here to help support students through this uncertain and challenging time by providing personal statement advice and tips on getting into chosen universities. For medicine in particular, the extra work experience and interviews required can make the process even more demanding, but I will provide tailored support to guide students to help avoid unnecessary stress.

About my sessions

I aim to make my online sessions personalised by getting to know the student, their preferred learning style and what areas they need to improve in. I aim to make my online sessions personalised by getting to know the student, their preferred learning style and what areas they need to improve in. Each subject has an exam board which provides specifications for the knowledge that will be tested in the exam. I prepare for sessions by highlighting the section of the specification we'll be covering, as well as providing learning material and exam questions designed to test that area of knowledge. I have a lot of experience in exam technique, which I will use to help students understand the best way to answer questions in order to help them achieve the grades they deserve.

For Chemistry and Biology, most students prefer to work through notes on subject areas together, so I can help them understand concepts that may have been difficult in a busy classroom. I will then consolidate learning by providing past exam questions which they can either try during the session with my assistance, or in their own time. Other students will prefer a more problem-based approach, where they learn better through mostly answering questions. I find that this approach is especially helpful for maths. I tailor my teaching to the grade the student is aiming for, however I will also encourage them to try a few higher grade questions to challenge them. As we near exam time I start to give students whole past exam papers to help build their confidence and improve timing, therefore reducing stress.
