About me

I am currently a first year student studying Biochemistry at the University of Oxford. Biochemistry interests me as it is the application of chemical principles to biological systems and helps to provide insight into the mechanisms of how life operates such as genetics and cell biology. The in-depth study of the processes that happen at a molecular level within living organisms appeals to me as it follows a set of rules which can then be used to explain a variety of biological phenomena. The in-depth study of the processes that happen at a molecular level within living organisms appeals to me as it follows a set of rules which can then be used to explain a variety of biological phenomena. As first year Biochemistry is broad it has provided me with a wide background knowledge which will enable me to help my students in areas of Biology, Chemistry, Maths.

As well as this I love learning and passing on new information. Having spent my life in education I have seen many different teaching styles and am able to tailor my lessons to suit each child. Also being in education myself allows me to relate to my student and their needs and will work hard to ensure that these are met such as support in weaker areas by breaking down methods and explanations into logical sequential steps and providing lots of practice and developing strengths helping them to excel.

About my sessions

During the first lesson I will be focussing on listening to what the student would like to achieve, content they would like to cover and areas they would like to work on. From here, in the first lesson, we will come up with a student-directed plan of how to achieve their goals in the given time frame. This is important when encouraging learning as it provides the student with more responsibility for their own learning. As well as this by setting end goals it gives the student motivation and s...

As well as this by setting end goals it gives the student motivation and something to work towards.

In the following lessons we will work on covering content with detailed explanations of processes and methods with opportunities for the students to add their own thoughts and ask questions at any time. Once the understanding has taken place the material will be consolidated with worked examples of practice questions. After the lesson a few questions will be suggested and set for revision and we can go over any that the student is unsure about at the start of the next session.

Progress can be measured by the practice questions that are set at the end of each session to see if areas that needed more support in the lesson are now manageable for the student independently. This will also help the student to gain confidence when working independently.
