I am studying medicine because it has a unique nature that combines the privilege of patient centred care, and knowledge of ever changing scientific principles, to have a positive impact on the health and well being of vulnerable individuals. I am particularly excited to study paediatrics as I love working with and helping young people, I have joined the paediatrics society through which I volunteered in hospitals making children’s hospital experience as good as it can be.

Volunteering at 'Awesome Science' and Open Evenings gave me the opportunity to shape the education of others. As a Homework Club Supervisor and Peer Speller, I developed the ability to communicate with younger students.

I was a member of The Anne Rachel School of Drama through which I took multiple drama exams with LAMDA, achieving a distinction in Grade 5 Verse and Prose, and Grade 5 Acting. These examinations alongside Lincoln Music and Drama Festival

entries illustrate that I can speak with clarity and confidence. I will help students by listening to their worries and areas of weakness, ensuring I spend more time on these. I will determine their style of learning and try to structure the lessons in this way.

About my sessions

When I first meet the student I will discuss what they want to get out of the sessions and their style of learning. I will begin each session reviewing the topics that were covered in the previously. This will be done by going over questions I have set for the student to look at over the week, this is so I can measure progress, checking that everything has been fully understood. Then the majority of the lesson will be me explaining concepts to the student. I believe that repetition and using...

I believe that repetition and using different methods of revision is vital for success, so I will ensure I ask questions throughout and describe things in different ways so that they are remembered. I will encourage them to do past papers as these get you in the correct mindset for answering questions in exams. I will help students reach their goals by ensuring they feel comfortable asking questions. Personally I find it useful to add actions to words and use funny phrases to remember things. I will pass these on where relevant and encourage the student to create their own.

Before each session, I will review the content so that I am confident in answering any questions confidently. I will prepare questions and think of interesting methods of communicating the information. It is important to appreciate small successes, as these build confidence which is invaluable entering exams. However, I will also focus on areas for improvement so that by the end of the sessions the student is confident in all topics.
