About me

Hi there! My name's Andrew, and I've recently finished my first year studying maths at the University of Warwick. The last year has only deepened my enjoyment of maths, and has inspired me to want to help others improve and develop in what is, in no doubt, a very challenging subject.

In school, too often I found that the way maths was taught was to just give us a fixed procedure to answer questions. While this is of course necessary, I've found that it misses out the key concept behind maths; problem solving. I'm passionate about showing students how to take any question and break it down into smaller and more manageable steps, preparing you for whatever the exam has to offer!

Keeping a healthy work-life balance is vital to university life. I often go running, and also enjoy watching sports with friends, especially football!

About my sessions

The way the sessions are structured really will depend on you and what you need help with. In the introductory session we’ll talk through how you want the sessions to be structured, and what you want to focus on during them. Whether that be me helping out with homework questions, working through past papers together or learning how to improve exam technique, these sessions are for you and it’s down to you what we do in them!

However, if you’re not quite sure what you want to do,...

However, if you’re not quite sure what you want to do, a typical session would be as follows:

1) Before the session, you’d give me a topic you want to go through.

2) I'll briefly introduce the topic and cover the theory behind it.

3) We'll go through some example questions together.

4) I'll give you a few questions to do by yourselves, giving hints when needed.

5) Then we'd finish by going through an exam style question.

6) I'd set you a few (not too many!) exam style questions to do before the next session. These would of course be optional but highly recommended, as practice is vital for committing what we've learnt to memory.

Before each session, I'd have all the relevant material prepared, and would also mark any questions that I’d set, providing feedback in the next session. I’ll keep these sessions as relaxed as possible as I don’t want to add any stress to what I know is an already stressful period. Please feel free to message me with any questions/clarifications.
