About me

My BA in Philosophy and Theology at Oxford is an incredibly engaging and rewarding experience not only because it teaches me new ways to think about the world and the way human beings are (which is what really excites me about my subject),but because it teaches me how to structure my ideas in new, innovative ways which means they can be shared more effectively. It is this combination of genuine love for and engagement with my subject and highly effective expression that I think I can transmit to students, and what I think truly passes exams. Oftentimes I have found that it is not knowing the information that makes you a serious candidate for success, but the way you can express this to show true understanding, and that this is much easier than it may seem. As part of my degree I do varied things such as learning a language and logic so I am able to learn and to teach in many intellectual mediums. Having tutored before (being grade 8 violin), I am aware that teaching needs to be tailored to the individual needs, and have the necessary experience to be sensitive and accommodating to this.

About my sessions

I am very open to the particular needs of the student regarding structure and content of sessions, but generally I have found the best way to use the time is to spend the beginning establishing the information regarding the topic at hand, and the latter half (or whatever remaining time, sometimes it will be the greater, others the less half) applying this information to develop exam confidence and expression and structure skills (almost always the biggest point for improvement in examiner'...

I am very open to the particular needs of the student regarding structure and content of sessions, but generally I have found the best way to use the time is to spend the beginning establishing the information regarding the topic at hand, and the latter half (or whatever remaining time, sometimes it will be the greater, others the less half) applying this information to develop exam confidence and expression and structure skills (almost always the biggest point for improvement in examiner's reports). This will be done topic by topic (as often as the student requires), and given my proposed lesson structure, this means that each time the student gets taught both content and invaluable skills transmitted through the content at hand thus re-establishing the information. Success will be discussed in a relaxed way, and small recap exercises for the student to complete to provide a measure. I wish to establish a friendly, relaxed, but highly effective working environment in my sessions. Preparation on my part differs depending on whether it is an essay subject and age and ability of the student, but what I have found very effective is structural templates and close text exercises. This allows the student to overall develop their intellectual style. To determine this I would request some basic information and a small exercise before beginning so I can ascertain the most fitting way forward.
