About me

I am a recently retired international rower with a first in Psychology (graduated May 2019). I am currently on a gap year working as a Special Educational Needs and Disability teacher before starting a Masters in Sociology at Oxford. As someone with a learning disability (ADHD), I have first-hand experience of how frustrating and isolating the classroom can be. I believe that with the right focus of effort and resources, students can gain the confidence they need to achieve.

About my sessions

I wholly endorse the idea that no student is the same, and so begin tutoring with discussing the types of teaching styles and techniques the student responds well to, and what they don't like.

Then we can review areas in which the student feels they need help or guidance, and develop an action plan together so the student is always in control of their learning and goal setting.

I often find that GCSE's and A-Level exams are about how you answer a question, rather than displaying knowledge of a topic. Thus, I have developed extensive knowledge of the grading systems and the specific ways in which exam boards want students to answer the question.

My son's time with Sophie has been excellent so far. She has gone out of her way to prepare and support him through his psychology A'level and he is learning more than he is with his teachers. Highly recommended.
