About me

I have recently completed my first year of university, achieving a 'first' classification. In the past I have tutored students in Maths, from 11+ to A-Level, and in Physics at GCSE level. I chose to study Computer Science because it is currently taking breakthroughs in Mathematics and using them to solve real world problems, for example in neural computing or machine learning.

I believe that some of the most important learning takes place during the problem solving process, when answering questions. I believe that reinforcing pure theory with its application in exam style questions is the most effective way to ensure a thorough understanding. This is especially true if the theory can be linked to real world applications!

About my sessions

I understand that people learn in very different ways, so the ideal lesson structure will vary from student to student. I will try to identify the most effective way to convey information to you, be it through graphical methods, rigorous proofs or physical applications of the theory being studied.

Measuring progress in Mathematics and Computer Science is quite easy, due to the fact that there are almost always a finite set of correct answers. It is important for students to understand where they make mistakes, in order to reduce the chance of this when it matters. This requires not only practice using exam style questions, but reflection on each stage of working. Practice and reflection are the key to achieving in these subjects.
