About me

Hello! I'm Tilly, I live in Suffolk and I go to Cambridge University, studying History and Politics. I've absolutely loved my first year and I'm eager to help improve the academic performance of any students with similar interests to my own. I have tutoring experience under my belt, and my stellar academic track record coupled with top notch communication and people skills means I believe I have the tools to help students improve at school.

About my sessions

My sessions will be completely tailored to the individual level and goals of the student. Before our first session I will ask to see examples of recent written work in your chosen subject in order to understand the level of the student. I will aim to make the sessions fun and engaging - I know how difficult it is to focus for long periods of time so I will aim to regularly change the task at hand in order to fully engage with the subject material. If you're preparing for GCSEs or A-levels my sessions will be mainly exam focused with precedent given to exam technique and assistance memorising information. I understand that progress is not always linear and will aim to set achievable goals each session that can be met in order to achieve further progress and help students understand that they can achieve success in their chosen subject. I love the subjects I'm tutoring and I want to transmit that to my students, finding the balance of fun and serious work necessary to improve. Whether that's providing an interestingly weird fact to make your essay stand out from your cohort or playing games to help material stick in your brain, I'm willing to deploy a variety of techniques until we find a way of learning that fits the individual student's needs.

I have had 4 sessions with Tilly for both History and Politics. Tilly is an amazing tutor, she has a very relaxed yet fun and intriguing approach to every tutoring session. We went through some of my essays and she really took the time to listen to my concerns, which were largely structural issues but also linking and identifiying criteria for my essays. I was given detailed feedback on various ways I can improve these issues whilst maintaining a cohesive essay to help me get top marks in my essays. During our tutoring sessions, I always kept a notepad and flashcards with me to jot down essay feedback/tips and Tillys wisdom (from her own experiences to her lecturers' advice for writing a History/Politics essay). I refer to this feedback regularly and use it as a baseline when writing essays and I have seen a great improvement in both my confidence and approach in writing A-Level History and Politics essays.
