Hi! My name's Ruby, and I'm reading Music at Durham University.
I'm a piano teacher and organist, with a big love for early music and analysis. I'm also a confident french speaker with full marks at AS. I'm super familiar with the Edexcel A level and GCSE syllabuses for music, and I'm choc-a-bloc full of study and personal statement tips and ideas to help you get the best out of your course. (Translation = things I wish I had thought of earlier!)
More specifically, in GCSE and A level music I will work with you to push your composition to the next level and give you devices and frameworks to make the most of your three minutes. I can help you to understand the set works on a deeper level, and show you how to tailor your answers to the examiner's standards.
At A level, I can equip you with the tools to place an unseen piece of music within its historical context, and help you achieve fluency in analysis and melodic dictation. I also particularly enjoy teaching four part and Bach chorales, and I can help you learn how to produce really beautiful music within this framework.
In French, I know just how important it is to spend time speaking with someone in the language. In our tutor sessions we will do just this, building new vocabulary and grammatical structures into your repertoire in a natural and effortless way. I really cannot overstate how much the act of speaking French contributes to all-round proficiency: in listening, reading and writing too. We can discuss all topic areas, including holidays, family, healthy lifestyle and media.
Can't wait to get started!
