About me

Hey there! I just graduated university with a History degree. It was always one of my favourite subjects, yet I struggled in class as I found the courses boring and formulaic. Hey there! I just graduated university with a History degree. It was always one of my favourite subjects, yet I struggled in class as I found the courses boring and formulaic. I stuck through it though eventually receiving full marks in A-level History exams, and finishing University with a First Class degree. I understand that classes are not always engaging, but it is important that people study history and engage with it for it offers far too many skills to pass up. It improved how I think and communicate, and has shaped the way I understand the world.

Exams at all levels have a method, and once you understand it, it is possible to reach those top marks. I am a patient person with years of experience working with young people aged 11-18 in leadership and self-development. This experience allows me to help you or your child reach their potential in a way that is relevant to them and what they need to improve on.

I also help on other subjects: Government and Politics because I did it for A-level, and after doing a number of political philosophy and history courses in my degree, I feel prepared to help. Finally, I offer help with Music because I am currently working on my diploma in musical theory and I have had a number of my music compositions performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (2018 and 2019).

I would love to be able to help with any subject, making sure you understand the concepts, and then how to practically use them.

About my sessions

It is hard to state an overall structure or plan for my sessions, as I design them around the student. Each student will receive a conversation on their current level, what they want to work on, and how we make these sessions fit for them. I really believe that each student is different, and the benefit of one-on-one tuition is that we get to work on their weaknesses and consolidate their strengths. Some students struggle with the material, and I am happy to spend time explaining it in new and interesting ways – through videos, presentations and interactive quizzes. Some students need help with exam technique, which is unfortunately crucial - learning to structure your exam responses is a key way to improve marks. This can be taught through dissecting and understanding practice questions . Finally, some students just need to be supported when exam stress is high, and be reminded what they are capable of, and I find that just as important.

Depending on their workload, we will either assess their progress through work they do for school, or work they can do for our sessions. For this reason, every session will start with a summary of what they covered in class that week. I believe that these sessions should support them and that the best way to do that is for me to also see what they are getting graded on, and ensure they're prepared. I will also provide exam revision sessions where they can demonstrate what they know through presentations.
