About me

Hi! I'm Tobias. I'm currently studying biological natural sciences at the University of Cambridge, and am specialising in biochemistry for my third year. Biology is an exciting subject to me because of the complexity and mystery of life, and the beauty of the mechanisms that underlie it. It is also an area of science that is currently experiencing a boom of innovation, and studying it at university allows me to understand the cutting edge of research. Hi! As well as biology, I have experience tutoring in maths, chemistry and physics, having done all 3 at A level and continued my study of Maths and Chemistry in my first year at university. I have experience with preparing for GCSE and A level exams, as well as the Cambridge natural sciences pre-interview test. Outside of the academic, my hobbies include martial arts - I am a member of the Cambridge Mixed Martial Arts team - swimming, reading and playing the drums.

About my sessions

I believe in problem-based learning, meaning that rather than spending my online lessons simply talking about the content, we will use sets of problems and questions to get to grips with material in a practical way, and to allow me to pinpoint holes in knowledge where I can help with clearing things up. At the end of every lesson, I will set some exercises to be done by the next lesson, though I don't want my students to spend too long on these. One hour max - I know you have lives outsid...

One hour max - I know you have lives outside school! We will then go through these together, exploring the student's thought process and increasing understanding of the topics at hand by looking at where mistakes were made and why. In whatever time we have left, we will go through more unseen problems together and I will answer any questions the student may have. It is important to me that the student is involved in his or her tutoring; thus, it's key that my students take an active role in organising the structure of their lessons, telling me what areas they struggle with or what they want to concentrate on so I can plan lessons tailored to their needs. I try to model my lessons on the supervisions we have at Cambridge, where a professor teaches a small group of 1 to 3 students, as my experience has been that this is the best way to learn.
