About me

Hello!

I have recently graduated from the University of Exeter with a first class degree in Human Biosciences (BSc). This course essentially combines Biology and Sports and Exercise Science which were my two favorite subjects at school! I am now furthering this passion by doing a Masters in Nutrition, Physical Activity and Public Health at the University of Bristol which will start in September and I am very excited for. For me, understanding how the human body works is the most interesting thing out there however I know from my friends that not everyone feels this way and there are some subjects that are just tricky to get your head around or to find enjoyment in. I aim to help my students improve by helping them find an interest in seemingly 'boring' topics, become more confident in the areas they are better at and transfer this confidence to the topics which they find harder.

A lesson just to get to know each other and to find out their likes and dislikes within their chosen subject is essential. This will also be useful to find out which syllabus they are doing and at what point they are in it. What the students I have tutored in the past have found useful is going through their class notes on the topic in the first part of the lesson and compare this with the key information from the syllabus. This allows any mistakes to be corrected and more information or detail to be added where perhaps what is written is a little vague. If the student had been given any homework then we would next go through this. I strongly believe that as a tutor you should encourage and help the student to do their best but this does not include doing their homework for them! Before the lesson I will find relevant questions to the topic, either from past papers or just based off the syllabus as I feel applying the knowledge is an essential part of learning. I think a good technique is to breakdown what the question is asking and discuss what they have learnt and apply it to the question. Answering would be a great activity for the student to do by themselves and could be gone through at the start of the next online session! I want my students to come away from the online lesson feeling more confident in not just the content of the topic discussed but how they could answer different questions on it as well.
