I am a recent first-class English graduate of the University of Liverpool and was awarded the English Attainment Scholarship for regularly achieving the highest grades on the English course. I have received an unconditional offer to study a Renaissance and 18th century literature Masters degree, commencing in September 2019. Having studied works of Literature from 1500 to present day, I am confident and competent in teaching all the texts covered in GCSE and A-Level and the majority of 1st and 2nd year undergraduate literature. Additionally, I have completed first-year undergraduate English Language modules so can tutor GCSE and A-Level English Language. I have 18 months experience in a tuition centre teaching KS3, GCSE and A-Level English Literature and Language, giving me a wealth of experience in honing and adapting methods and approaches to teaching to suit the individual needs and preferences of students and significantly improving their grades. I have worked with many SEN students with a variety of diagnoses. I am a creative individual and use this creativity to plan fun and engaging sessions and improve the student’s experience of analysing and engaging with their GCSE and A-Level texts. I am upbeat, friendly and love nothing more than discussing anything English-related. I work to ensure that my enthusiasm and passion inspires students and encourages them to share the success, joy and satisfaction that studying English can bring.

About my sessions

I tailor sessions to fit the student, tackling appropriate areas of difficulty in ways that suit. I tailor sessions to fit the student, tackling appropriate areas of difficulty in ways that suit. Although honing the student's ability to apply methods and structures successfully in exams is crucial, I am acutely aware that to gain top grades, they too need to be independent and creative thinkers. In the first session, I will ask students and parents to identify strengths and weaknesses and determine preferred learning styles, alongside requesting details such as exam boards and predicted grades to ensure that sessions are at an appropriate level. I am reliable and will always ensure that I am fully prepared for every session in order to maximise the hour. Session focuses may include essay planning and writing, practical test strategies, time-management, constructive feedback and re-drafting. I aim to develop students' analytical reading and inference skills and teach successful application of these into strong exam-style answers. However, these techniques will be adapted in order to be course/exam-board specific, alongside targeting the student's distinct requirements and areas for improvement. I achieved top GCSE and A-level grades and am keen to share my methods to help others achieve top grades too. My students will enter exams armed with a quiet confidence and a toolbox of techniques, skills and structures to achieve their very best performance. My flexible student-led sessions will not only improve grades but also inspire and empower students.
