About me

Hi!

I am currently studying Chemical Engineering at Downing College Cambridge. It is a versatile degree combining my interests for my A levels subjects and innovative technology. Hi!

I am currently studying Chemical Engineering at Downing College Cambridge. It is a versatile degree combining my interests for my A levels subjects and innovative technology. From producing renewable energy to making biofuels, the field shows how the physical sciences can improve everyday living. As a person who enjoys challenges, this led me to sit the Chemistry Olympiad and Cambridge Chemistry challenge in year 12 (scoring silver in both) and the UKMT maths challenge in year 13 gaining a gold. I hope to impart this enthusiasm to my students!

In addition to the sciences, I will be able to help students with personal statements, interviews and Natural sciences pre-interview assessments.

In sixth form, I enjoyed taking part in the maths buddy scheme helping younger school members and my A level peers with maths. Also, for the past 8 years I have been a Ju Jitsu instructor teaching many people ranging from 6-year-olds to adults - many of which are now black belts.

Outside studies, I play squash and I am involved in University chess having been an international player for multiple years. Additionally, I am a member of the Downing College Chapel Choir where we have given multiple recitals (highlight being a tour in Hungary) this year. As a keen pianist holding a DipABRSM in piano performance, I have performed occasional recitals. I am also a member of the College Music committee and the University Physics and Chemistry societies.

About my sessions

My lessons will initially focus on discussing material taught in school and going over previous work submitted. This will be followed by ensuring a strong understanding of the topics to which the lesson is dedicated too. With this I will create interesting exercises in a range of difficulties to improve long term retention of information. In the second part of the lesson I would cover exam questions to ensure the student can successfully apply knowledge to what they would answer in the exam –...

My lessons will initially focus on discussing material taught in school and going over previous work submitted. This will be followed by ensuring a strong understanding of the topics to which the lesson is dedicated too. With this I will create interesting exercises in a range of difficulties to improve long term retention of information. In the second part of the lesson I would cover exam questions to ensure the student can successfully apply knowledge to what they would answer in the exam – active learning and practice is critical for success in the sciences (i.e. not just reading through a textbook)! Additionally, I will occasionally issue worksheets to solidify content covered as well as stretching their knowledge and developing their ability to think.

To prepare for lessons I will ask the student in advance what topics they wish to cover in the next lesson. This will allow me to collate interesting examples and exam questions to go over.

Progress will be measured from overall performance in exercises and marks achieved in any worksheets set. Moreover, I will be able to monitor a developing progression of a student’s knowledge over multiple lessons. I aim to encourage learning to help the student accomplish their scientific passions and goals, which coupled with resilience and hard work favors positive results.
