About me

Hi I'm maaedah, a medical student at Oxford University. I am really enjoying my course; its very interesting learning about the human body and I particularly like the fact medicine combines all the sciences, as these were my favourite subjects during a level and GCSE's. Medicine is also super interactive and I have the opportunity to meet so many different people which makes this career much more exciting than your standard office job! Medicine is also super interactive and I have the opportunity to meet so many different people which makes this career much more exciting than your standard office job! As a first year student, the struggle of A levels and GCSE's is still very fresh in my mind - I hope I can not only give you academic help, but also advise you of the best coping methods under exam pressure. I have had 2 to 3 years experience in tutoring from the ages 6-18 which I have thoroughly enjoyed. In my eyes, tutoring is an extremely rewarding job where I can help a child reach their full academic potential but also make it fun along the way!

About my sessions

During my tutoring experience, the key thing I learned is to adapt myself to each child. Some people respond better to diagrams (which I personally love using!), where as for others repetition and emphasising important concepts really helps ideas to stick. I am also a huge fan of using analogies to simplify harder concepts! During my tutoring experience, the key thing I learned is to adapt myself to each child. Some people respond better to diagrams (which I personally love using!), where as for others repetition and emphasising important concepts really helps ideas to stick. I am also a huge fan of using analogies to simplify harder concepts! Another thing which is very important to me, is to ensure the child has a good grasp of the basic ideas before tackling more challenging ones. I check this by asking simple questions and assessing whether they feel confident enough to move on. My lesson structure involves explaining the topic at hand and then attempting exam style questions, some of which are timed, to ensure that the to child can apply the ideas that they have learnt. I am also very keen on encouraging the child to use mark schemes so they can start to think what the examiners would like in a model answer. Then on the next lesson, we will have a brief summary of the topic again to ensure it is not forgotten. If the child is struggling we will repeat this processes again, and I may tackle it in a different manner. Although this plan generally works well, I am totally open to feedback and comments from the child so we can, together, make sure that the lessons are most effective!
