About me

Hello everyone! My name is Fran and I am just beginning my 4th year at UCL medical school.

Having been through the process of taking challenging A levels and applying to university, I understand how difficult this can be. Using my experience, I will aim to reinforce the positive steps that students are taking - to never give up and that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

Although I haven't had any direct tutoring experience before, for the past year I have mentored 6th form students through volunteering with target medicine, a widening participation programme for those who wish to apply to medicine but may not have the support they need.

Exams and applying to university can be challenging. However I am so passionate about medicine, the subjects surrounding medicine, and helping others achieve their goals that it makes it all worthwhile. I hope to help my students gain confidence and motivation throughout this time, that can be full of hurdles and doubts.

As well as enjoying medicine, I know how great it can be, for physical and mental health, to do extracurricular activities that you enjoy. I love running and baking. I have enjoyed leading the strings group at university over the past 2 years, and next year I hope to start playing my saxophone in big band and doing regular yoga sessions - I have heard it's a great way to relax :)

About my sessions

I will aim to tailor them to the individual GCSE/A level course. For example, I understand that various boards have different requirements, which I will carry our research for for each individual student.

At GCSE level, I can help with a wide range of subjects, and at A level, Biology is my chosen subject. I also have carried out both admissions test for medical school (UCAT and BMAT), so I can offer focused and dedicated tutoring to these exams.

Each week, I will focus on a different aspect of the course/exam, and review the students' progress every 3-4 weeks with practice questions or past papers.

The way I teach will depend on the individual - students have different learning sstyles, and I will aim to assess this in the initial meeting so I can teach them in the most effective way.

It is also important to see how the student feels - confidence is half the battle, especially with exams, and I aim to highlight their strengths and improve their skills in areas where they are not so confident.
