Degree: Music (Bachelors) - Cambridge University
Hi there, my name is Harry and I'm a finalist reading music at the University of Cambridge. I absolutely love all types of muisc and fortuantely, in my degree, I'm studying a really wide variety of subjects, ranging from the 13th Century right up to the present day. I'm very used to working with young people as in my spare time I'm a choral scholar in the choir of King's college, which means singing and working alongisde boy trebles every week. I'm also interested in foreign languages, I studied both Russian and Latin to A-level, which have both fed into my studies at university but also fuelled my love of travel - recently I've been on a large European interrail trip, a choir tour to South East Asia and have another (USA + Mexico) in the pipeline! Other than that, I'm a big fan of good stand-up comedy, Arsenal football club and Mexican food!
I am no stranger to 1-1 tutoring. At school, I was in charge of the mentoring program which operated in a similar way to this website, with older sixth formers offering half an hour sessions with younger students who were struggling in a particular subject. I found the system produced incredible results and from my own experience this was due to the relatability of the sixth formers as opposed to teachers. My philosophy on this format of teaching is that there should be absolutely no fear to just say exactly what you are thinking. Often there can be a stigma in classrooms about simply saying ' I don't understand' in order to not embarass yourself in front of the rest of the class. Sessions with me will be totally relaxed and I will encourage you to be totally honest with your understanding. It is nothing to be embarssed about - we have all been there! I'm also known among my friends for creating quite whacky (often quite funny) ways of remembering things. You might feel a bit ridiculous using them at first but it is that kind of ridiculous thing that stays in your brain (the same way in which you can always remember a funny story).
(As a side note, I can also offer Oxbridge and other University advice if neccessary.)
Please do drop me a line - looking forward to meeting you!
