About me

I study Medicine at the University of Manchester. I love my degree because it combines my interest in science with the opportunity to work around people and continue strengthening my social skills. I know how hard studying for any sort of exam can be and believe I therefore have the experience and patience to help other students cope with what I have been through.

At school, I found GCSEs quite overwhelming, as did many of my contemporaries, due to the sheer number of exams and wide variety of subjects you're expected to learn. I always found group revision sessions with focussed aims really helpful to direct my revision and test what was actually going in; sometimes it is hard to tell what information you are actually retaining when you are attempting to cram so much in!

A Levels were easier in terms of quantity, of course, but clearly the content is much more demanding. I found the overlap between my subjects (Chemistry, Maths and Biology) useful in helping study but also enjoyed having French as it gave me a chance to practice different skills and engage in more discussion and argument-forming as opposed to learning facts and theories. The two different groups required very different revision methods and I feel doing both has given me a wide range of skills which can be applied to many subjects.

About my sessions

I believe everyone has their own way of learning and so will be ready to adapt to the different needs of each student. However I have found that the most commonly useful methods include: question practice, discussions and drawing diagrams/flow-charts.

I will prepare by sourcing past papers, concentrating on particular question types or content. At the beginning of sessions I will ask the student what they have been struggling with/want to concentrate on and focus the lesson...

I will prepare by sourcing past papers, concentrating on particular question types or content. At the beginning of sessions I will ask the student what they have been struggling with/want to concentrate on and focus the lesson around that. At the end I will leave time to reflect on the lesson, what they have learnt/improved on and what they want to focus on next time.
