About me

I am a 4th year Chemistry student at the University of Oxford and am really enjoying learning science to a higher level – and I would like others to as well! I have also just taken university exams for the last 3 years therefore have developed a lot of my own revision tools, such as simplifying and reducing what I have learnt to minimise the amount that needs to be memorised – which can be especially tricky at GCSE and A-level. I have also just taken university exams for the last 3 years therefore have developed a lot of my own revision tools, such as simplifying and reducing what I have learnt to minimise the amount that needs to be memorised – which can be especially tricky at GCSE and A-level. Outside of university I regularly run, play tennis, and join as many societies as I can – whether that is charity fundraising or international affairs!

My tutoring style is very flexible and I can adapt to what a student needs; I aim to develop student confidence so that when they face an exam question or problem that is unfamiliar, they have the correct skills to apply and demonstrate what they know. Often the main barrier at GCSE and A-level is exam technique and I definitely found that this was an important element to practice when I have taken exams past and present.

Having studied at Oxford, I am very aware of the importance of 1:1 tutoring and how this can greatly increase your understanding of a subject. I often apply this to my own lessons as it is an important skill to be able to talk through an answer to a problem and explain your reasoning.

About my sessions

My lessons will generally be centred around exam-style problems – either chosen by me or specific problems that a student may be struggling with at school or wish to ask questions about. However if a topic is not well-understood or needs further explanation, it is often better to work through the content differently. When I was learning myself, I often found it useful to talk through with someone what I did understand about a certain method or concept, which would then give the tutor or teach...

My lessons will generally be centred around exam-style problems – either chosen by me or specific problems that a student may be struggling with at school or wish to ask questions about. However if a topic is not well-understood or needs further explanation, it is often better to work through the content differently. When I was learning myself, I often found it useful to talk through with someone what I did understand about a certain method or concept, which would then give the tutor or teacher or parent the opportunity to build on the knowledge I already had.

Every student is different and often at first this is not possible, therefore I can put together a short list of the key aspects within a topic and break down the problem into smaller, manageable blocks to work through. This can be especially useful during periods of revision as it can reduce stress and enables you to remember a topic more clearly once you have understood it.

Above all, I would like any student to finish a lesson, feeling more confident in their abilities and encouraged to look at their GCSE or A-level content in a different way.
