About me

I'm doing Aerospace Engineering because its the closest I can probably get to my childhood dream of being an astronaut! (I'm still going to apply when applications open up). It ties together all of the subjects I studied at A-Level perfectly with the added bonus of being able to say 'It IS actually rocket science' when people ask what it is!

I love the practical part of engineering and being in the workshop building things for assignments or even in my spare time - one of my current projects is making a smart mirror with an Amazon Alexa device.

I've always thought that the more you actually like and enjoy the subject you study, the easier it becomes to understand and the less of a chore it becomes to do so. I'm not afraid to admit I went to a lunchtime maths club with my friends in sixth-form, and have watched enough YouTube videos about Chemistry and Physics for a lifetime. In the end these things helped consolidate all I had learned in school by linking different topics together, culminating in quite a pleasant and stress-free time when A-Levels arrived.

Obviously not everyone has the same interests, but even if I can make someone slightly more interested in the topics they are struggling in, I am sure they will find it easier to learn.

About my sessions

I will begin by assessing what parts of the subject the tutee needs help with. They may not need extensive help in all of them, maybe one or two major areas, a few minor ones and some that they are fully competent on.

In the session I will work on multiple topics. This means if something isn't quite getting through, we can move on to something more productive and I can reassess how to approach the point we got stuck on differently for next time, rather than use the tuto...

In the session I will work on multiple topics. This means if something isn't quite getting through, we can move on to something more productive and I can reassess how to approach the point we got stuck on differently for next time, rather than use the tutoring time to figure out how to convey the subject matter effectively. This also means the tutee isn't likely to get stressed over one topic which will be unconducive to working productively in the rest of the tutorial.

When the tutee understands a topic, I will provide a few example questions to test them and make sure. At the end of the tutorial, its important to do a recap so I will provide them with an example from each of the topics we have covered to wrap up.

To measure progress I will periodically return to content from a few tutorials past and provide example questions. If the tutee is struggling again I will do a recap.

The most important thing to encourage learning is to help the tutee find an interest in the subject. They will be more likely to think about the subject outside of school, and perhaps even read around the subject which for me has unexpectedly supplemented my school and university knowledge.
