About me

I am 19 years old and study Economics with German at the University of Nottingham. I love my degree, as I am passionate about studying both of my subjects and think they suit my skillset perfectly – economics is more mathematical and theoretical while German is very logical. I am also really looking forward to working in Germany for a year, as part of my degree, as hopefully afterwards I will be fluent in the language and gain lots of valuable work and life experience. I definitely hope to bring the enthusiasm I have for my course into my tutor sessions.

Alongside my studies I am involved in a number of societies, including the Nottingham Economics and Finance Society (NEFS) and the Badminton Society. I am also on the badminton programme here at Nottingham meaning I train with and compete for the top teams here at the university. I have played county badminton for a number of years now and was previously ranked in the top 15 for my age group in the country.

I have also enjoyed being a part of the mentoring programme here at Nottingham, where I have acted as a mentor to the new economics undergraduates for the past year. This has been really enjoyable and an invaluable experience which makes me a lot better equipped to be a tutor.

I have been very dedicated to my studies throughout my academic career, and having achieved 8A*s 4As and A*AA in my GCSEs and A-Levels respectively, I feel that I am well placed to help other students succeed too.

About my sessions

Each of my tutor sessions will adhere to the individual needs of the student. This means I will make sure that both the material and the teaching style I use is best suited for each student. Because of this in the first session I will make sure I understand what the student needs both in teaching style and content-wise. At the start of each session I will outline to the student the material that will be worked on in the session and the goal that we hope to reach by the end of it. We will eith...

We will either focus on content that was picked up as a potential area for improvement in the previous session or material that the student has specifically requested themselves.

The first key focus of the tutorials is to give the students a fundamental understanding of the topic material. Once the understanding is there, we can then incorporate revision techniques into the process which will help the student retain the important information for the exam. As I am still a university student myself, I will be able to incorporate numerous revision techniques into our sessions – these include past paper questions, mind maps, “blurting method”, flashcards etc.
