About me

Hi! I'm Charlotte and I have returned to University to become an educational psychology masters student. Preparing to take exams at school and applying university can seem daunting and at times overwhelming – I certainly felt this during my GCSEs and A-Levels.

Prior to returning to university, I was a Teacher and, through my teaching practice, I always wanted to motivate students to unlock their full potential but also create a safe environment for this. I also understood the challenges faced by students in the classroom and I can use various teaching styles to help build confidence in any subject. I am very friendly and approachable. I always listen to the needs of the student and can readily adapt in tutoring sessions if needed. I have lots of passion for unlocking potential and creating confidence in the subjects I tutor!

Having taught a range of subjects in the classroom, I am passionate at instilling knowledge, problem-solving techniques and creating critical thinkers to help students overcome even the trickiest of questions. I look forward to hearing from you!

About my sessions

All my lessons are individually tailored to the student’s goals; no two lessons I teach will be the same. I always strive to find different engaging ways of learning. Before the first session, I advise the student to create a list of areas they find challenging or want more guidance with and we can go through this in our very first session to create a mini action plan for the sessions. I’ll also spend the first session getting to know the student and their preferred way of learning.

A typical session will include:

A discussion of the student’s current understanding

An explanation of the topic with careful corrections of any misconceptions

A worked example question

Opportunities for student to apply their learning on questions with my support

Looking at common errors made and encouraging the student to see where and why these errors were made as well as how to try to avoid them

At the end of the session, I will provide a number of optional questions for the student to try before the next lesson. These will be looked at the beginning of the next session to consolidate learning.

I have a bank of questions of various difficultly that I can work through but if you have any specific questions from a textbook or past papers I'd love to work through these. I am also happy to do revision sessions and help create revision materials ready for the exams.
