About me

Hi! My name is Yva and I love absolutely everything about Medicine! I love understanding what’s happening in your own body, I love the problem-solving aspect of trying to figure out what’s wrong and I love learning about all the new developments in medical science and seeing what the future of medicine is going to be like.

I love understanding what’s happening in your own body, I love the problem-solving aspect of trying to figure out what’s wrong and I love learning about all the new developments in medical science and seeing what the future of medicine is going to be like.

I grew up in a tiny town and went to the local state comprehensive school. Science and Maths were always my favourite subjects (Essays? No thank you!) and as I got older it became increasingly clear to me that I wanted to be a doctor. After a bit of looking, I decided that I wanted my university to have small teaching groups where I could regularly discuss with my tutor, and that I wanted there to be a strong research focus. Unsurprisingly, this lead me to Oxford!

I’ve always loved music and play in an orchestra and jazz band at university. Last year, I was the academic affairs officer for my college. This is a long way of saying that I made sure that all of the students were happy with how they were being taught, as well as helping to run interviews for offer holders. This year I am serving as the Vice-President for Oxford MedSoc, where I make sure everyone knows the exciting new things that are happening in MedSoc.

About my sessions

The focus of lessons will be led entirely by the student. I’m here to help with whatever topics you are struggling with and there’s no point me leading a lesson if it’s a topic that you already feel comfortable with! I ask that you let me know the subject in advance so that I am able to gather resources that I think will be of the most benefit to you.

When I was revising, I always thought the best way to do it was to work through a load of past questions and this is how I intend to structure my lessons. Before a lesson, I will prepare a series of questions, starting fairly easy and getting progressively more difficult. I will work through each of these questions with you, making sure that you not only know what the right answer is, but that you also understand how to get there. Progress will be measured by how many questions we can get through, and also the difficulty of the questions that we reach.

I think the best way to learn is to be genuinely excited about your subject! I realise that some topics are never going to be the most thrilling, but I hope to initiate conversations that get you thinking about the topics in a new way, and see that applications that they have to the world around us.
