About me

Just a few months ago I graduated from the University of Bristol with a First class degree in Economics, a subject which I thoroughly enjoy. I love economics because, unlike my other subjects at school, I was seeing real-life examples of it on an almost daily basis. It meant that I could apply what I was learning to what was unfolding in the world around me and my ability in the subject went from strength to strength. Economics leans heavily on my other favourite subject at school, maths, which I enjoyed due to the simple problem-solving nature of it.

I have always been passionate about helping others to achieve their potential, whether it was helping primary school students develop their reading skills, guiding 14-year-olds through their science homework, or coaching on the sports field. I found it highly rewarding to see someone improve in any field and grow in confidence as they realise the progress they have made.

It's easy to allow exams to overwhelm you but with proper preparation success is always possible. This is something I have great experience of having sat GCSEs, A-Level exams, as well as various other entrance exams in verbal and non-verbal reasoning, and of course university exams. Over the years, I've tried a range of different revision techniques and I hope that, as well as helping you to extend your subject knowledge, I can provide help in exam preparation.

About my sessions

I aim to always ensure that the student gets exactly what they want to from their tutorials. Of course, I will encourage a student to read widely in the subject, and can provide assistance if they wish to do so. However, ultimately, I want to help the student fill in gaps in their knowledge, improve their ability in topics they are having difficulty with, and make sure that they feel engaged in the material throughout this process. To do this, I will make sure that communication is clear and on time so that my tutorials will be well-prepared, properly structured, and enjoyable.

I believe that it is crucial to build subject knowledge from the base up and to only move on to more advanced material when the student is ready to do so. Because of this, I have a patient and methodical approach whereby I will discuss the topic broadly with the student, provide several worked example questions and then work with them through as many practice questions as necessary before allowing them to attempt problems on their own where I can provide assistance as required. In this way, students should always feel confident to attempt questions and so will not be discouraged.

Sometimes, though, to ensure progress, it is important that students move out from their comfort zones. If they feel confident to move on to more advanced material I will encourage them to do so and provide questions that they can practice in between sessions.
