Having achieved A*s in my English A Level and IGCSE exams, I have previously helped students attain similar high grades and I am looking forward to helping more students achieve their potential!

I’m enthusiastic to help students improve their grades, whilst also aiming to make learning an enjoyable experience. It’s important for me to show my students that English can be an engaging and thought-provoking subject, as often its appreciation can be lost to the pressure a school environment produces.

I’m excited to demonstrate to my students that English is a unique subject in which there are no wrong answers, and opposing opinions can often happily coexist! It’s therefore important for me to encourage my students to think creatively, and teach them how to comfortably produce imaginative debates.

My lessons break down a text into manageable sections, using mind-mapping to focus on its themes, characters, plot and context.

I tailor my lesson plans to suit the individual needs of each student. I use the first session to determine the areas in which they require more support. Before beginning their prescribed texts in detail, I teach students helpful examination techniques and essay writing tips, to establish good writing habits early on.

Once we have started exploring a text, each lesson will focus on key passages encouraging joint discussion of the importance of the chosen scene to the understanding of the text as whole, as well as the relevance of any literary techniques the author has used. Student participation promotes the ability to form personal and creative responses in any essay.

I like to make learning simple and manageable, using mind-mapping as a tool to effectively break down complicated concepts and ideas, such as the text's key themes. I also teach students about the alternative interpretations of a text, critical opinion and socio-political context which surround the piece, as these theories can provide an essay with a greater depth when used appropriately.
