About me

I am a student at Bristol University and have been tutoring for over a year now! I study Medical Anthropology and spend most of my time at uni writing essays and playing hockey! If you are having issues writing essays, I promise that I can show you how to make them easier and get those difficult marks!  As well as writing essays, I have to study a lot of science and really enjoy it, especially biology! If you are having trouble understanding any aspect of your course I promise you that I will find an explanation that makes sense to you- after all, not everyone's brain works the same!  I am a fluent French speaker and believe that learning languages is a lot of fun! It IS really difficult though and learning all the different words and rules is a nightmare- I have a lot of resources that help you learn everything you need to in preparation for your GCSE. I believe that practice makes perfect and this couldn't be more true when learning a language!   If you have any questions, send me a 'WebMail' or book a 'Meet the Tutor Session'! (both accessible through this website). Remember to tell me your exam board and what you're struggling with. Questions Holly has answered

Why do some verbs take avoir and some take être in the perfect tense? How can I remember them?!

Well- French is one of those languages, like English, that has lots of silly rules that can't be explained! There's no way of telling which ones will take avoir and which ones will take être, unfortunately you've just got to learn them!

However, don't worry- there's a really easy way to remember which ones they are! Just remember the name, MRS VANDERTRAMP- each of the letters in her name is one of the verbs that takes être.

We'll run through them and then see how quickly you can say them all in order in one go, I can do it in 7 seconds- I challenge you to beat me!
