About me

Hi! My name is Haris and I am a second-year medical student at Kings College London. Before I came to University, I was quite clueless to the expansive world of revision and examinations. I confess that I simply made scruffy black and white notes on some A4 paper and deemed it worthy to use for revision, while exam-style technique may well have been a different language to me. This kind of attitude got me average grades and admission to a course that I promptly left.

I confess that I simply made scruffy black and white notes on some A4 paper and deemed it worthy to use for revision, while exam-style technique may well have been a different language to me. This kind of attitude got me average grades and admission to a course that I promptly left.

In the following few weeks I left University and took some time out to rethink everything through. Having discovered Medicine through numerous shadowing opportunities I found it to be the perfect career for me. I then became an incredibly active learner and changed the way I learnt, revised and worked. I managed to complete three full A-Level courses, scoring A*AA grades, getting 2856/Band 1 on UCAT, passing interviews and getting offers from KCL, Liverpool and Sheffield, all within 18 months. Having been fully submerged in the classic student confusion of not knowing what to do after A-Levels and fighting my way back to a course I can set my heart to has been an eye-opening experience and I look forward to teaching all that I have learnt to the students who decide to study with me. Aside from academic interests, I am an avid reader, painter, and musician. I go rock climbing on a weekly basis and weightlifting as many days as I can.

About my sessions

I believe every student learns differently and so I aim to focus on tutoring each student independent to their respective learning styles. It is incredibly important that the student gets a basic grasp of the concept first as this will make it far easier for them to remember the concepts and answer any question the exam boards throw at them. After this we will move on to expanding their knowledge and learning how to answer exam style questions specific to the mark scheme.

My teaching style reflects my own learning style and so I will incorporate the use of various techniques including visual leaning, mind maps, online quizzes and flashcards. I think it is important to engage the student in the topics they are learning and there are many ways to do this. An enthusiastic approach goes a long way in my opinion and I will teach beyond the subject syllabus so the student can appreciate the wider implications of what they are learning.
