Hello!

I'm Adam, and I've recently graduated from the University of Oxford with a degree in Modern Languages.

At University I played a lot of football, which took me on memorable tours to Amsterdam, Beijing and California.

I love languages because they open doors to other cultures. They've taken me to Hamburg, Marseille and Casablanca, and I've made some good friends along the way.

In terms of my teaching philosophy, I'm really keen to hear what you want to get out of our lessons. In this way we can set goals and get as much out of the tutorials as possible. I like to give you the space to think for yourself and work things out, as this is often the best way to commit things to memory and highlight your strengths and weaknesses.

In terms of my teaching experience, I spent my year abroad teaching English to students aged 15 - 30, ranging from Syrian refugees to German young adults looking to retake their A levels. I also spent three months privately tutoring a 15-year old in German. I have also spent three years working as a private tutor for children aged 13 - 17 at my local grammar school, teaching all GCSE subjects and acting as a general mentor.

If you'd like to have a chat about about helping you or your child to enjoy and excel in their studies, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

About my sessions

As for my teaching style, I take a specific approach to each student, working out which areas they want to work on most, and teaching these areas in a way that best fits their needs.

That said, my usual structure is as follows:

- 5-10 minutes speaking and catching up in the teaching language

- 20 minutes working through grammar

- 25 minutes working through topics, questions, and exercises related to an area of study chosen by you

- 5 min...

- 25 minutes working through topics, questions, and exercises related to an area of study chosen by you

- 5 minutes of recap and planning for next lesson

I'm really keen to give you as much space as possible to work things out. In my experience the more I think, the more I learn, so I will be trying to get you to do as much as possible. That said, I understand goals can be quite daunting, and so I am on-hand to set mini-goals and offer advice along the way. Obviously I am more involved in lessons where the student is a beginner.

I understand the importance of exam results, and therefore aim to focus on getting students exam-ready. I'm very thorough in my approach and enjoy putting together a strategy for each aspect of the syllabus so that my students have all bases covered. I am happy to set work and support your learning outside of our tutorials, because I honestly love to see students do well and achieve their goals.
