About me

Hi, my name is Greg and I'm a third year Theoretical physics student, who is currently on a 1st . This particular course is really suited for me as it allows me to look at the subject through a more mathematical lens. I very much enjoy what I do and would relish the opportunity to share my knowledge and abilities to help students learn and hopefully achieve the grades they deserve, but I also hope to cultivate a genuine appreciation for the subject. I very much enjoy what I do and would relish the opportunity to share my knowledge and abilities to help students learn and hopefully achieve the grades they deserve, but I also hope to cultivate a genuine appreciation for the subject. During my A-levels, I found that certain ways of doing things really helped me learn, such as using drawings and practising questions. I wish to use my experience to develop lessons and make my teaching as effective as possible. In my spare time, I enjoy art (particularly watercolour and oil painting), I think my art shows I have a bit of a creative side which can be helpful when I have to explain abstract and difficult concepts.

About my sessions

When I was an A-level student I found the best way to check my learning and progress was to do lots of questions. Particularly useful for many pupils, including myself, was to get a question wrong and then have someone explain why it was wrong and how to correct it. Often this helped develop my underlying knowledge of the topic, so my lessons will have a large emphasis on working through and answering questions. I also found using plenty of diagrams and graphs helped me make sense of some topics as I was able to visualise them, so I will include these wherever possible.

My sessions are flexible and built around what the student feels they need to work on. If a student feels like they don't understand a topic, I will explain that topic with them at a pace they find suitable, using visualisations where possible. After this I will work through a question in order to put the knowledge into context, then I will give them some questions to work on in order to test their understanding and see if they have progressed. In another session, we will check the answers and work through any that are incorrect so the student can understand why it is wrong and if I need to can go back over anything they don't understand. Likewise, if a student feels they understand a topic but they have some questions they are unsure of, I will work through those with them. The point is, the sessions are developed depending on what the student feels they need.
