About me

I am an Optometry student who is passionate about academics and has an inquisitive and empathetic nature. I especially enjoy the direct interaction I have with patients in clinics, as it enables me to strengthen my clinical abilities as well as my interpersonal skills. I like the fact that I am able to help people with one the most fundamental senses that we need for everyday life. I like the fact that I am able to help people with one the most fundamental senses that we need for everyday life. Thus, I am excited at the prospect of eye care progressing in terms of new technology being developed to test eyes.

It can be a daunting time applying to University, but keeping on top of UCAS deadlines and frequently asking my tutor and teachers to check my personal statement definitely helped me through this time. During exam season stress and anxiety levels are heightened, in order to cope with this I have a tendency to take some time out for myself. Sometimes surrounding yourself with stressed students can worsen emotions, thus I tend to isolate myself just before entering the exam hall, in order to collect my thoughts and calm my mind. In University I am part of the ISOC society and I am also a PASS leader whereby I aid first year students both academically and personally.

In my spare time I like to experiment with baking and cooking, as well as travel to unique places to dine. I also enjoy reading psychological thrillers, as well as watching crime and Korean dramas.

At the beginning of the lesson I will go through the key objectives and aims of the lesson we should achieve by the end of the session. I will re-visit the content and key aims of the lesson beforehand making sure I have a clear idea of how I will present the lesson to the tutee. I will also take note of any points a tutee mentions and wishes to cover. By delivering my lessons in an enthusiastic, succinct and informative manner, I hope to instill the key aims of the lessons in a simple and understandable way. I will open the floor frequently through the session to any questions the tutee may have. I will measure progress by taking a quick fire terminology test in order to test how much terminology they have retained and their application of it to texts. I will also ask them to annotate articles on a regular basis, in order to help them refresh the terminology they have already learnt. It is important to encourage learning as it enables students to develop confidence in their abilities, and ultimately enable them to gradually improve and reach their desired academic goals. Learning techniques such as visual learning, as well as applying terminology to texts and news articles works particularly well. By looking at the recurring patterns and question-styles of past exam papers, this particularly helped to amplify my subject knowledge and my application of it.
