About me

Hi, I’m Laurie. I’m originally from Manchester and I’m currently in my first year at the University of Leeds studying Maths and Music (Joint Honours). I am passionate about Maths as it is the set of tools, or ‘language’, upon which so much of our world is built upon, from Architecture to Computing Programming, and therefore understanding the laws of Maths is a way to further understand the world around us. I am passionate about Maths as it is the set of tools, or ‘language’, upon which so much of our world is built upon, from Architecture to Computing Programming, and therefore understanding the laws of Maths is a way to further understand the world around us. Music is also found everywhere in society, and I thoroughly enjoy being able to break down and analyse what I am hearing, and understand why we like the music we listen to.

I also play Saxophone and Clarinet, and am part of the Jazz and Blues Society, as well as the Music Society, MathSoc and LSTV (Leeds Student Television).

About my sessions

It is my job as your tutor to be flexible in my tutoring style in order to fit your needs, as everyone learns in different ways. I will try to help you find your learning style (Visual, Auditory, e.t.c..) and then tailor any exercises I give you to fit that style.

Before each lesson, either at the end of the last lesson or online, we will have a discussion about a topic that may need attention. I will then start the lesson with an explanation of that topic, and then give exam style ques...

I will then start the lesson with an explanation of that topic, and then give exam style questions for you to do. This means that the time we have is used in the most efficient way possible. I can also help go over any questions you may have about any recent homeworks/past papers you have done.

During my A levels, the most effective way of revision was to do as many past paper questions as possible, with someone to go to for help when you get stuck, so don’t be afraid to ask anything in our lessons.
