About me

I am a recent PhD graduate who is passionate about teaching. Maths is a hugely diverse subject, with a wide range of different topics, but deep and interesting links between them, and a huge variety of applications. I love this interconnectedness, and the way that one area of maths can be exactly what is needed to solve a problem in a seemingly unrelated area. At times, maths can be frustrating, but the excitement when all the pieces fall together and the solution becomes clear makes it worth...

I enjoy working with my students to identify what they need and how best to help them improve. No two learners are the same, but the problems people encounter when learning maths recur again and again. I focus on finding the right way to help an individual student with a problem they're having, and believe that this is best done jointly with the student.

About my sessions

I firmly believe that education should be student-led. As such, I am happy to adapt the style of my sessions to the individual needs of the student. A typical session will involve a mix of me explaining the relevant theory, going through examples with the student, and the student attempting practice questions themselves with my help.

I continually monitor misunderstandings and mistakes by my students, to identify specific areas of weakness, so I can give targeted interventi...

I continually monitor misunderstandings and mistakes by my students, to identify specific areas of weakness, so I can give targeted interventions and devise explanations or exercises to correct the problem.

I believe in putting abstract ideas into a definite context, as a way of building confidence and enthusiasm about the subject. Maths can often seem divorced from reality, but I always endeavour to connect the abstract ideas both to each other and to real world applications and intuition.

The lessons are highly planned and the theory is presented in a structured, educative manner, and complemented with questions that check understanding and build on the theory, which gives Harry's lectures the unique feeling of a fully fledged, high quality course on the topic(s) being studied. Certainly a lot of effort, thought and care is put not only into the material of each lesson, but also in the teaching. I can definitely recommend Harry for pretty much everything and anything math.

Can highly recommend Harry as A level Maths tutor. Very patient and has helped my son with topics he's been struggling with. Has boosted confidence tenfold and now working much more methodically. My Tutor a really good model of learning as very flexible, easy to use and great that you can revisit recorded lessons and watch again.

The tuition from Harry has been first class. The online lessons are planned and well thought out. Harry presents in a manner that makes the method understandable step by step. Highly recommended.
