I have lots of experience in written and practical examinations across many boards throughout school and university. My specialist subjects are maths, biology, chemistry, physics (all of which I achieved A*s in at GCSE level).

I have cycled through many hobbies in the past including Judo in which I competed for Merseyside. I also played rugby for Stafford Rugby Club and my school's first team. At university however my main hobby is power-lifting. I also enjoy table-tennis at a very amateur level!

I have the patience to slowly explain concepts which each student wishes to review in order to increase their confidence and improve their grades. I know of many resources which I used at school to maintain my grades at a high-level which I would be more than happy to share with students.

I will be sure to review what each student has learned recently, and of these topics which they are confident with and which need reviewing. I will listen carefully to what the student is concerned about so that I can provide the best possible support. In my opinion, applying this knowledge in the form of questions is the best way of assessing understanding of a topic as this is what aided me most in my studies.

About my sessions

At the beginning of each session I will check the welfare of each student before delving back into work. I will be sure to ask if there is any topic or questions they wish to review in the session.

To prepare for subsequent sessions I will review revision guides to be clear on the syllabus. I will read through my notes made on previous sessions, find appropriate resources and make questions and answers.

To help my students achieve their goals, I believe patience is absolutely essential. I think it is important to remember that I was once in my student’s shoes and I am therefore more than happy to repeat any concepts carefully. This is crucial to remember as there are a huge range of students with different abilities all across the board.

As a means of monitoring progress, I will ask and make notes on any recent tests/examinations and the grades acquired. I will make a note of which questions were answered incorrectly so that I am able to grasp the student’s thought-process to enable myself to correct their understanding.

To encourage learning I think that it is essential that the student recognises their own progress which will then increase their drive to learn. Congratulating students on their progress and reminding them of this I think is very encouraging. Ultimately I would love to inspire the same passion for these subjects that I have while improving the student’s confidence in the subject.

David Parent from Birmingham

17 Jan

David has completed 2 lessons in Biology and Chemistry for my son in preparation for his GSCE's. David has listened to our requirements and tailored his lessons. David has made the lessons interesting and given extra reading in preparation for the next time. Being a youngish student himself helps with relating to my son. Only the beginning of our journey but all positive so far.
