My main passion is History, which is incredibly fascinating and interactive. I love history's accessibility via the internet, documentaries, books and fiction! When revising essay subjects, it can be difficult to sift through what information is most important and which is useless; I feel competent to help others achieve this skill.

I have previously tutored my family friend, helping with their Maths GCSE. They were really struggling to grasp the basic concepts in maths so we went through lots of concepts slowly and repetitively in order to secure the basics and also worked on exam technique. While they found it difficult to solve the harder questions, we worked on how to get marks even if they weren't able to finish the questions. With a combination of tutoring and determination, they gained 2 grades above their prediction. I have also helped tutor younger children, aged  6 and 9, helping with their English as they were not from an English speaking background. From these experiences, I feel able to cater to each individual child and their ambitions.

About my sessions

One technique I thoroughly believe in is REPETITION! Whether this be for a topic in maths, doing multiple past papers, or essay writing, repeating an idea or technique is an incredibly helpful way of securing knowledge and understanding. However, this doesn't mean that learning or revising has to be boring! I love using colours, pictures, diagrams and more to help with revision.

The most important thing is providing what each student needs and using the techniques that work for them. With clear goals, a plan can be formulated to help the student achieve those goals. And while it takes a couple of sessions to work out what works best for each individual, this is the best way to help with learning and understanding.

For me, the most important thing is to teach how to think. Students are better off with the skills to learn independently, and a tutor's support is there in order to do that. I don't believe in giving out answers, I think it is most helpful to get kids to critically engage and think, in order to work things out for themselves.
