About me

Hi there! My name is Mikage Mizutani. I personally chose to start tutoring, as having recently gone through the secondary school exam system of GCSE and A-levels, I know just how daunting exams and revision can feel. Hi there! My name is Mikage Mizutani. I personally chose to start tutoring, as having recently gone through the secondary school exam system of GCSE and A-levels, I know just how daunting exams and revision can feel. I am confident that I can help alleviate that stress through my tutoring sessions, providing support in subjects including French, Sociology and Politics, as well as University Entrance Exams like the LNAT, in order to maximise your success! As a native French speaker, I always look forward to tutoring the subject. I am here to assist you with French grammar, speaking and listening exercises and provide an insight on French-speaking societies for those studying the subject at AS or A-level. As a Social Science student who has done her fair share of essay writing, I understand how to formulate the perfect essay structure, while having fun with the subject. I see teamwork as an asset to successful tutoring, and thus together, I believe that I can help students thrive and find the best in themselves. Apart from tutoring, I like to engage in volunteering opportunities, having previously worked for charities like Oxfam and Cancer Research UK. I am a current member of the Debating Union at Bristol and Law-orientated societies that focus on social justice, such as the Lawyers without Borders society. My other hobbies include cycling and Athletics-based sports.

About my sessions

My primary aim is to ensure that my students have a full understanding of their course content. For this to be the case, I prepare for lessons by spending a good amount of time familiarising myself with the course specification, the exam questions and the mark scheme. I will also be asking students to rate their confidence in a topic area of their subject, and with that, create some SMART goals to mutually work on together. My preferred method of teaching Sociology and Politics is through presentations. French lessons will involve more online worksheet-based exercises in order to fill in the blanks in a student’s grammar, reading and listening skills. When practising for French oral exams, I will aim to engage the student in conversations by initially asking them simple questions and then work towards a conversation that they can expect in their official test. In preparation for the LNAT, I encourage students to engage with broadsheet newspaper articles. From this, I will ask them specific questions regarding what they have read in order to ensure that they have a clear understanding of how to appropriately answer the multiple-choice questions. With the essay section, I work collaboratively to formulate an essay plan that enables the student to consider clear, concise and relevant points when answering the question, while impressing University admissions teams.
