I'm here to help you to develop both understanding of key concepts and core skills like essay-writing in a manner that is friendly and completely flexible around your needs.

Studying geography at the world's best university has given me skills and opportunities I could have only dreamed of when I was younger. The sheer breadth of material that I have covered is testament to that, ranging from my dissertation on coral reefs to projects on Maori heritage and Welsh international politics. This range has required me to hone many skills including essay-writing, data analysis and applying abstract theory to a high level. Therefore, I’m well-prepared to mentor for the subjects I chose for IB Higher Level and to help any geography candidates considering Oxbridge applications.

Outside the library, I also managed to secure placements at Tsinghua University, Beijing, where I led a presentation in front of over 200 people, and the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, NZ, where I drafted proposals to rejuvenate the ‘Red Zone’ damaged by 2011 earthquakes to the City Council as part of a small team.

About my sessions

At the core of my teaching philosophy is flexibility and patience, so my sessions will be personalised to suit your journey to success. Particularly when trying to meet the needs of a mark scheme, teaching in the classroom often takes a one-size-fits-all approach that can leave some students wanting and I believe this is where I can help! Before starting teaching, I will have a conversation with you to find what teaching styles suit you and what topics you excel at and struggle with in order...

Before starting teaching, I will have a conversation with you to find what teaching styles suit you and what topics you excel at and struggle with in order to personalise your sessions. I will incorporate contemporary materials (diverse case studies, historiography etc.) to complement what you're learning in the classroom and use recap sessions with past paper-style questions or going over take-away work to ensure covered topics are grasped before proceeding.

For Oxbridge candidates, I will focus on personal statements and preparation for entrance tests (GAT, TSA etc.) before more thorough interview practice. This will involve discussing a broad array of geographical issues and topics using relevant materials (graphs, pictures, etc. to analyse alongside interview questions) in addition to ensuring you're comfortable with all topics covered in your personal statement.

Well prepared. Varied lesson. Gauged the level quite early on and adapted accordingly. Cheerful and good natured. We're looking forward to more lessons.
