About me

Hi, my name is Joshua Adams and I am a second-year computer science student at Warwick University. I did maths and computer science at GCSE in which I got an A* in both, and then at A-Level, I studied maths, further maths and computing, in which I likewise got A* in each. For A-Level, I completed twelve maths modules; Core 1-4, Mechanics, Statistics, Further Maths and Decision. I got 100% in four of the modules, and in a further four I was one mark off, and so I have a deep subject knowledge...

I got 100% in four of the modules, and in a further four I was one mark off, and so I have a deep subject knowledge across the breadth of various disciplines. I am suited to teaching any of the above to a high level and will encourage my pupils to aim for the same high standards.

I love both maths and computer science, even at degree level. I am incredibly enthusiastic about both subjects and this is evident in my teaching, and I aim to incur such enthusiasm from my pupils.

I will help my students improve through two main methods; one, we will isolate target areas where improvement is required, and during the session, through teaching and exercises, we shall work on these and improve the pupil's competence. Secondly, I will work through difficult past exam paper questions with them, ensuring that the pupil has not only a wide breadth of knowledge but is also comfortable in tackling the toughest questions at the end of the paper and aiming for full marks.

About my sessions

Before starting any lessons, I will confer with the pupil and/or parents about weaker areas that will require an emphasis. Both computing and maths have the benefit of being modular in their structure and so I will break down sessions to fit an individual aspect.

Before starting any lessons, I will confer with the pupil and/or parents about weaker areas that will require an emphasis. Both computing and maths have the benefit of being modular in their structure and so I will break down sessions to fit an individual aspect.

During a session, I will teach through the topic, and talk through several example questions, ensuring that the pupil understands both the concept and the method for solving the question. The pupil will then have the opportunity to attempt questions on their own, with me there to help them as needed. Generally, I'll set homework, either in the form of questions or papers, which is up for the student to answer. If there are any questions relating to the work set, then I can cover these at the beginning of the lesson, and I am always available to be messaged through MyTutor also.

Progressed will be measured through the pupil's scores in past papers. Initially, I would ask that a pupil completed a paper to both demonstrate their initial starting level, and also highlight all areas of weakness if this was not apparent already. Every few weeks, I would set further papers, monitoring progress, and ensuring that the pupil was improving, especially focussing on the topics that have been covered in the lessons, ensuring that what I've taught has been absorbed and understood fully.
