About me

Hi! I am currently in my fourth and final year at Durham University where I study Mathematics and Philosophy! This might seem like a weird combination but it allows me to study both subjects that I love as well as allowing me to see how much they actually have in common, mainly the use of logic to get across an argument or an idea.

At university I am very involved with many different things, such as rugby, dance, charity committee, and mainly cheerleading, which I will also be coaching...

Hi! I am currently in my fourth and final year at Durham University where I study Mathematics and Philosophy! This might seem like a weird combination but it allows me to study both subjects that I love as well as allowing me to see how much they actually have in common, mainly the use of logic to get across an argument or an idea.

At university I am very involved with many different things, such as rugby, dance, charity committee, and mainly cheerleading, which I will also be coaching over the next year. Apart from this, I have also completed a maths teaching internship at a high school, where I worked with all years and abilities, and I have also spent two summers in Italy teaching English, so I understand how different students work in different ways.

Exams can be stressful, but by being prepared and having a deep understanding of the content, and not just learning how to answer exam questions, you can apply your knowledge to any question even if it is unfamiliar, which will allow you to do your best and achieve your goals!

I hope my enthusiasm and my knowledge can help you be the best that you can be, and I hope to hear from you soon!

About my sessions

I believe the best way to encourage someone to learn is to make lessons enjoyable, easy to understand, and a safe place to ask questions and not be afraid to get things wrong. Every person is different, which means that everyone learns in different ways, and so I would spend time figuring out what works for the student and then tailor the lessons around them.

A really important part of learning is being able to understand the material, rather than just learning one method to answer a similar questions, as this does not always work when faced with unfamiliar problems.

For each topic I would make sure the student has a full understanding of what is being taught, with the use of examples, before we move on to working on questions together, and then later onto more independent work. I would also regularly bring up previous topics, to ensure that the understanding is still there and nothing is forgotten. Overall, understanding and practice are the most important things to help you achieve your goals, and I hope together we can have enjoyable lessons which allow you to do your best!
