About me

I am currently in my third year studying for a Master's in Mathematics at the University of Bristol.

My passion for the subject came very early on into school life and I found that it came very naturally to me. This allowed me to achieve a C grade in GCSE foundation maths 3 years early at the age of 13. I then achieved an A* in the subject a year early at the age of 15 and an A* in further maths GCSE. Following this, in sixth form I gained A*'s in A level maths and further maths...

Following this, in sixth form I gained A*'s in A level maths and further maths and achieved 100% in my second year of maths. Throughout sixth form I obtained the Duke of Edinburgh gold award. As part of this, I spent a year volunteering weekly to tutor GCSE maths students. During these sessions, the students would spend their time working through past papers and I would be on hand to give them any help if they needed. I especially spent time breaking each answer into steps to be able to understand exactly what the student understood so I was not wasting time explaining things they already knew.

In my free periods during year 13 I lead statistic drop-in sessions for year 12 students studying for their A-levels. This enabled me to communicate higher level maths by answering any questions they had, whether that be general questions about the material or specific past paper questions.

I look forward to working with young students and inspiring them to reach their highest potential, enjoy the subject and ace their exams!

About my sessions

My love for mathematics was brought on by my secondary school teacher. My love for mathematics was brought on by my secondary school teacher. Her lessons were always exciting and incorporated different teaching methods to ensure that each student had the opportunity to learn in their preferred way. She will always be an inspiration to me and taught me a variety of techniques to help students enjoy a subject which is stereotypically “boring” (something I don’t agree with!).

My sessions will be fun and enjoyable so the students can really make the most out of them. I will start the sessions by setting a variety of questions to see which basics the student understands and get a feel for what grade they are currently working at. Then each session will be based on a topic, or a few smaller topics, which either I think the student will benefit from, or something they have decided they need to work on (e.g. if they have not fully understood something from school that week).

I will measure their progress by setting regular tasks for them to complete before sessions. I will work around the student to ensure that I am giving them a suitable amount of work for them to make progress. Although it is important to start early and do a lot of exam revision, I am a firm believer that having a ‘work-life’ balance is the key to success. Setting deadlines will help for them to revise throughout the year and having flexible, regular sessions will ensure that they can stay motivated in school, but also take part in activities they love!
