As an almost 10 year veteran of language learning I am aware of the daily struggles that come with learning and teaching a language. During my last year of A-Levels I worked for the Student-Mentor scheme, tutoring three different tutees per week and mentoring them through their AS exams. The year before this I was a classroom assistant, tutoring year 7 and 8 students in basic German and French grammar and vocabulary. This experience helped me develop skills essential to becoming a good tutor such as patience, perseverance and organisation. My area of expertise is the teaching of grammar however; having experienced the struggles of appeasing the content and structure of language essays I have become practiced in playing the game of the exam and adhering to the unspoken rules. This I would be happy to explain and teach to students. As an experienced tutor I understand that the integral problem is not lack of knowledge or talent, but a lack of understanding on how to learn a language and how to prepare for exams.
I plan to cater my lessons to each individual student’s need, whether that is confidence in oral ability, technical problems in grammar or vocabulary and above all the art of language learning.
Being a University student, I am available 7 days a week at different times throughout the day, however evenings and weekends would be preferable. I am very familiar with a variety of different exam boards; for French and German I used AQA and for Italian Edexcel. As cultural topics vary within exam boards it would be of great help to me if you could inform me of the topics you are currently studying and of which exam board you are following. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
