About me

After not having business as a GCSE option, I was keen to start studying it at A Level. I enjoyed business at school, so wanted to take it further by studying it at degree level. This was backed by my year’s placement at IBM during my gap year, where I got to experience the corporate world first hand. I want to relate the course to my years’ experience, as well as take it forward with me in to a career.

I am passionate about business as it is always current. Business is everywhere and is always changing. Us, humans, make up businesses. People with different skill sets and backgrounds come together in business to be creative and innovative.

Whereas GCSE's tested knowledge, A Levels tested understanding. It allows you more flexibility in your answers to have an opinion + judgement. This is taken further at university, where discursive and opinionated assignments are submitted about a topic that you are passionate about.

The personal statement was a piece to show the university your ability to look in to a specific topic in brief complexity - drawing them in to you as a candidate. I knew Exeter was where I wanted to study; it was down to me to achieve the required grades.

Hockey and tennis are my main hobbies at University, which sit alongside my course; work/life balance is important to me. These sports also bring a social side. I am also part of the Business and Finance society, who provide key networking events and career insight events throughout the year.

Structure; Introduction to the session, what was covered at school in the past week, look over content and any confusions or issues, apply the content to small and then larger questions, leave with homework, reflect on the session and content covered

Preparation; look at the exam board and business course, study the exam board’s specification in detail, gather content and prepare session material

Delivery; maintain a positive outlook on the session and work required, maintain a positive attitude so that is reflected in the student, ensure we remain on time, keep on track, always encourage and exchange feedback, look ahead to the short and long term

How I will help the students to achieve their goals;

-Look at the long term: what are their goals/aims/targets – how will we achieve them

-look at exam technique and the exam structure – target large essay questions given they hold the chunk of the marks

-cover theories, general knowledge and how apply them

How I will measure students’ progress and encourage learning;

-maintain patience, a positive attitude and a positive outlook on the sessions to motivate the student

-ensure the student isn’t overworked and stressed; encourage an active lifestyle

-keep track of test marks and school work and work towards increased performance

-take the workload and sessions step by step to help breakdown the workload

As a parent you want your child to feel motivated..and committed when choosing a tutor so they fully engage. Our first call with daniel was engaging, dan had set the scene, it was a open dialogue on objectives for both parties and ways of working. I sat in the back listening to my son and Dan and intuitively felt that they would work well together. Aman had his first lesson yesterday and he walked away feeling he learnt new ways of working for essay structures and top tips and felt he had learnt new information. Thank you Dan
