About me

Hi, I’m Stephen!

I’ve just finished my Master’s at Oxford in Ancient Philosophy, after finishing my undergraduate degree in French and Philosophy last year. I’ve loved languages ever since starting them at school, and experience living, teaching and translating in both France and Spain has afforded me a unique insight into the cultures of these countries and the ability to teach their languages clearly and enjoyably.

Choosing to continue my studies in philosophy means that I now have a wide background in the subject and always enjoy the chance to discuss the complex ideas involved!

I’m a bright and engaging tutor and the genuine passion I have for my subjects means that I can make even the driest of grammar points interesting! I’ve had substantial teaching experience in the past – in places ranging from Oxford and France to South Korea – and so I can create structured lesson plans that allow my students to make tangible progress. Learning should be enjoyable – I focus on making my lessons both interesting and informative!

Looking forward to hearing from you!

About my sessions

My sessions are informative and engaging, designed to not only allow the student to make concrete progress but also to stimulate an independent desire to learn. I proceed systematically, gauging first the level of the student, after which I create a lesson structure tailored to the student’s individual needs. I’ll cover the basics of a subject thoroughly to give the required foundation from which to progress, proceeding at a pace matched to the student. I’m adaptable and I make sure my lesson...

I’m adaptable and I make sure my lessons fit each student’s particular situation, focusing on those areas that may need more work while continuing to consolidate others.

I create a comfortable and open learning environment in which my students are able to ask any question they may have which we can then work through together. I focus not only on equipping my students with the knowledge to pass their exams, but also with the tools with which to consolidate their existing knowledge and to learn independently.

First and foremost, my lessons are both enjoyable and educational – my passion for learning comes through in the way I teach, allowing my students to achieve their goals and to enjoy their studies along the way!
